Import used engines to Ghana: G-CAP and Tema

Tema is one of the most orderly ports in West Africa — for the importer whose conformity paperwork was arranged before the vessel sailed, not after it berthed.

Wholesale onlyMinimum order is one sealed container — 90 engines in a 20-ft or 130 in a 40-ft. We do not sell single units. Sixteen models carry published prices; 30+ other makes are sourced by the container on request.

The codes Ghana actually buys

The Ghanaian parc is a Corolla parc. The 2ZR-FE follows the 2009-onward Corolla population that dominates the taxi and private fleet, the 1NZ-FE serves the earlier generation, and the 2AZ-FE follows the Camry trade.

A first Ghanaian container is usually weighted toward 2ZR and 1NZ, with a tranche of 2AZ on top — all Grade A, complete and tested, priced at the published per-unit rates.

G-CAP: Ghana's conformity programme

Ghana operates the Ghana Conformity Assessment Programme (G-CAP) under the Ghana Standards Authority. The structure will be familiar to anyone who has shipped to Kenya or Tanzania: regulated goods are inspected before shipment by an approved agency — Bureau Veritas, SGS or Intertek — and the consignment travels with a Certificate of Conformity that Tema customs expects to see. A container that arrives without its certificate does not clear on charm; it waits, and waiting at a port is the most expensive warehouse there is.

One detail that matters for engine buyers: parts are assessed as their own line items, under their own HS headings — 8407 for petrol engines, 8408 for diesel — separate from any vehicle rules. Confirm the current scope and exemptions for used engines with your clearing agent before booking, and tell us what they say: the origin inspection, when required, happens at our Guangzhou warehouse where the stock and the paperwork sit together.

Who does what

The G-CAP certificate is arranged around the exporter's side before shipment; the import declaration, duty and levies are yours, through your clearing agent. Duty rates change with Ghana's budget cycles, so treat any web page quoting them — this one included — as a conversation starter, not a rate card.

What we prepare is what every certificate gets checked against: commercial invoice, packing list with per-unit serials and grades, certificate of origin and bill of lading, declared plainly as used engines.

Tema and inland

Tema is the discharge port and serves the Accra-Kumasi corridor that consumes most of the country's engines. If any part of your load is destined for Burkina Faso or the northern transit trade, say so at quotation — transit declarations change the paperwork and are cheaper to arrange before booking.

Price a container yourself

Build the mix you want in the online quoter — exactly 90 units in a 20-ft or 130 in a 40-ft — and the FOB total reaches your inbox the same minute, at our published per-unit prices, every unit Grade A. Frequently asked

Does Ghana require pre-shipment inspection for used engines?

Ghana's G-CAP requires approved-agency inspection and a Certificate of Conformity for regulated goods. Whether your specific consignment falls in scope is your clearing agent's call under the current rules; confirm before the container is booked and we coordinate the origin side.

Which inspection agencies are approved?

Bureau Veritas, SGS and Intertek operate under the programme. Your agent will name the one for your route.

Which engines should a first Ghanaian container carry?

For most buyers: the bulk in 2ZR-FE and 1NZ-FE, with 2AZ-FE on top. All ENGICOR exports are Grade A — serialized, tested, approved by you before loading.
