Nissan QR25 vs VQ35: which to import

The QR25DE is Nissan's volume four-cylinder; the VQ35DE is its best-known V6. They sell to different customers at very different prices — here is how to split a container between them.

Wholesale onlyMinimum order is one full container — 90 engines in a 20-ft or 130 in a 40-ft, or with gearboxes 45 + 45 / 65 + 65. We do not sell single units. Nineteen models carry published prices; 30+ other makes on request, as a commercial enquiry.

Two engines, two customers

The QR25DE is a 2.5-litre in-line four with a timing chain, fitted to the Altima, X-Trail, Teana and many other Nissans. It is the engine a workshop fits several times a month. The VQ35DE is a 3.5-litre V6, also chain-driven, fitted to the Murano, Pathfinder, Teana V6, Maxima and several Infiniti models; it sells less often but for far more.

The QR25DE is in our published catalogue at US$ 470 per unit, valid inside a full container. The VQ35DE is not: it moves in far smaller volumes, so we quote it on request as a commercial enquiry, and for most buyers the QR25DE is the engine to stock.

Known weak points to look for

Both families have well-documented wear points: timing-chain wear and oil consumption on higher-mileage units, and on some early QR25 applications, problems with the pre-catalytic converter. None of these can be judged from outside the engine. Our check is what we describe on every engine: cleaning, handling, a manual crankshaft rotation check with a tool, and photos from every side. It is not a compression, leak-down, bench or running test. You don't need to travel to buy, but you or your representative are welcome to visit for a Guangzhou Inspection Day and review your prepared lot in person, with a USD 1,000 visit deposit credited to your order.

How to split a container

Buyers who serve general workshops fill their Nissan slots with the QR25DE, which is the published model. A buyer who also needs VQ35 units can ask for them as a commercial enquiry alongside the container. The container is priced on the mix, and Nissan engines can be mixed freely with Toyota, Hyundai-Kia and Isuzu models.

The gearbox detail is the one that trips buyers: the QR25DE gearbox we offer is two-wheel drive only, so an all-wheel-drive X-Trail needs a different unit. Gearboxes are sold untested and as-is, and only inside the mixed configurations of 45 engines + 45 gearboxes (20-ft) or 65 + 65 (40-ft).

Frequently asked

Which is cheaper, the QR25DE or the VQ35DE?

The QR25DE, at a published US$ 470 per unit FOB inside a full container. The VQ35DE, a 3.5 V6, costs several times more and is quoted on request.

No. Both use timing chains, which have no fixed replacement interval but can wear on high-mileage units.

Can I mix QR25 and VQ35 in one container?

The QR25DE, yes, with any of the nineteen published models; VQ35 units can only be added as a commercial enquiry. A 20-ft holds 90 engines and a 40-ft 130.
